Paid Holiday for Central and State Government Employees | Due to Assembly Elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura
General elections for the Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura will take place on February 16, 2023 (Tripura), and February 27, 2023, according to the Indian Election Commission (Meghalaya & Nagaland).
The Central Government has established regulations via OM No. 12/14/99-JCA dated 10.10.2001 regarding the closure of Central Government Offices and the granting of a paid holiday to all employees, including daily wage/casual workers, on the date of the general election in order to enable them to exercise their right to vote.

Election paid holiday in India | State and Central Govt Employees
India has a long history of having a thriving democracy and emphasizing the necessity of voter participation. The Indian government has announced Election Day to be a paid vacation in order to guarantee that everyone may exercise their right to vote. Employees in India have plenty of time to travel to their local polling place and cast their ballots thanks to this paid holiday, so they don’t have to worry about missing work or class.
The Election Holiday also gives voters enough time to research the candidates running in their district, enabling them to cast an informed ballot. Giving individuals this additional time encourages voting and enhances the democratic principles that underpin our country. The instructions have been brought to the notice of all concerned.

Subject: General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, 2023 – Grant of Paid Holiday to employees on the day of poll- regarding
The undersigned is directed to state that, as informed by the Election Commission of India, vide their Press Note No. 78/EPS/2023 dated 18.01.2023, the General Election for Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, scheduled to be held as under:-

- In this regard, it is stated that the guidelines have been issued by this Department, vide OM No. 12/14/99-JCA, dated 10.10.2001, regarding the closure of Central Government Offices and grant of paid holiday to all concerned, including the daily wage/casual workers, on the date of the general election. It is reiterated that all the Central Government Offices and the Central Industrial Establishments, shall remain closed in the notified areas, where the general election to the State Legislative Assembly Constituencies is to be conducted, on the date of the Poll. The employee concerned shall be granted a paid holiday on the date of the Poll to enable them to exercise their right to vote.
